Exclusive Interview with Oliver Palotai! (English version)

Sons Of Seasons second album ‘Magnisphyricon’ is out since a few months and the band did tour a lot during the last year. It was about time to ask a few questions! We are very happy that Oliver Palotai took some time to answer all of them! Please keep in mind – this is the translated version from German to English – so if you find any errors, they are ours, not Oliver’s. Have fun reading!

Sons Of Seasons Germany: Your second album ‘Magnisphyricon’ is out sind a couple of month. How was it recieved by critics and fans?

Oliver Palotai: I was again surprised about how thoroughly the journallists listen to new albums. You could read everywhere that we did a huge step production and songwriting-wise which matches our own persepction. ‘Gods Of Vermin’ got great reviews already, but ‘Magnisphyricon’ reached a level that will make it hard to suprass. We really have to give everything with the next album. And our fanbase grew immensely, which is the best news for me.

SoS Germany: And how about yourself? Are you happy with the developement of the band since the debut album?

Oliver Palotai: It’s is definitely a fact that we get a lot more attention, get more offers for concerts and the fees get higher. Usually it’s anything but granted that you get a fee at all. Most newcomers play for free. We are at a point where bigger promoters start to show interest in us. But there ist still a lot to do. The next big step will be our first video clip. It’s about time we finally do one.

SoS Germany: Do you have a personal favorite on the album, or a song that has a special meaning to you?

Oliver Palotai: It’s more the album as a whole. Well, there are two songs, that I treasure especially – ‘Yesteryears’ and ‘Casus Belli II: Necrologue To The Unborn’. The funny thing is that these are the two songs, that got the least feedback so far.

SoS Germany: I’ve got the impression that ‘Tales Of Greed’ is a song, which was recieved especially good by the fans. Did this surprise you or did you already expect it would turn into a fan-favorite?

Oliver Palotai: No, it just shows again, that things like this are almost impossible to predict. With ‘Bubonic Waltz’ I had a good feeling that it would be a ‘hit’. ‘Tales Of Greed’ was more like an experiment. I strayed quite far from the usual pattens while writing the song. Along with the waltz and ‘Soul Symmetry’ I really would like to make a clip for ‘Tales’.

SoS Germany: Have you already put some thought into the next album? When do you plan to start with the songwriting?

Oliver Palotai: I think I will start this year – 2012 – with the songwriting. Pepe Pierez is already quite busy with writing. I have plans in my head since quite a while, but I also have the feeling that ‘Magnisphyricon’ hasn’t gotten the attention that the album deserves. So far. One or two bigger tours and two or three video clips, then it’s time for the third album. I think the next album will be released by mid/end of 2013.

SoS Germany: Sons Of Seasons toured a lot last year. At first the support tour with Kamelot across Europe and right after that the co-headliner Tour with MaYaN. Which were the ‘Tour Moments 2011′ that you remember the most?

Oliver Palotai: The negative thing was, that the venues during the Kamelot tour weren’t even filled by a third sometimes, when we started to play. It really sucked to see that ‘Amaranthe’, who played right after us, had the double amount of people in the audience compared to us. The reason was that we always had to start playing before the official opening times that could be found on the internet. And still – it was our first tour that we closed with an even balance. That was a huge step, if you know how the business works – none of us got fees of course. The positiv thing was the general feedback and a lot of really cool gigs! We have quite a few fans by now who travel very far to see us and who sing along with all our songs. That reminds you again, why you choose this profession!

SoS Germany: There are concerts for Bremen and Fulda announced for this year. Do you have more concert plans? Will you go on tour again?

Oliver Palotai: I’m not sure if we will be able to do a real tour before 2013 or if it will be just selected dates. The main ‘problem’ will be that I’m going to spend a lot of time on tour with Kamelot in the second half year of 2012. We are working on concert dates, though, across Germany and in the adjacent countries.

SoS Germany: A lot of people think it would be a great idea if you could play on the 70.000 Tons Of Metal Cruise in 2013. That be a great start into the next year! ;)

Oliver Palotai: Yes, there have been a few rumours actually, that the promoters had shown interest in us for this year already. We will see. For me it would be the third time in 2013, swimming through the Caribbean.

SoS Germany: Do you have other plans for 2012, that we haven’t talked about yet?

Oliver Palotai: Our main concern is our first video clip for now. We found a very promising video artist and we plan to do this in the next 1-2 months. And, well, there are always surprises. That’s the beauty of this business.

SoS Germany:  Thank you very much for the interview, Oliver!
